TERMITE MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

Termite Management Systems are designed to impede undetected termite attack on a building. The type of Termite Management System that may be required will vary depending on the property type. Termite Management Systems consist of Physical Barriers, Chemical Barriers, Baiting & Monitoring Systems. 


TERMITE FOAMING TREATMENTS

Termite Foaming Treatments are used to treat live termite activity detected within the timber framework of a building. Termite foaming treatments involve injecting an expandable termiticide foam directly into the active termite workings. The active ingredient used in the foam (100g/L Fipronil) is a non-repellent termiticide that promotes colony elimination via the ‘transfer effect’. A follow up inspection is recommended within 1-2 months after the treatment to confirm the live termite activity has ceased. Termite Foaming Treatments are considered 'stage 1' of a '2 stage' treatment process. A foaming treatment should not be relied upon as complete termite management if there is no active Termite Management System installed at the property.


TERMITE MONITORING & BAITING STATIONS

Termite Monitoring & Baiting Stations are are an effective way to monitor and manage termite activity. Wardles Pest Control is an accredited installer of Sentricon Termite Baiting Station. The active ingredient used in Sentricon (Hexaflumuron) is an Insect Growth Regulator. Termite Baiting Stations are available in both ‘above-ground’ and ‘below-ground’ stations. The stations are installed in strategic ‘high-risk’ areas of the house or yard. Termite baiting stations are designed to be used in conjunction with a chemical termiticide barrier.


CHEMICAL TERMITE BARRIERS - EXISTING BUILDINGS

For an external chemical barrier, 10 mm holes are drilled every 300 mm along the entire external slab. A petrol operated slab injector is then used to inject the chemical under the external slab. For internal chemical barriers, 7 mm holes are drilled every 300 mm (or where practical) along the internal walls of each room built on a slab (wet areas etc). A petrol operated slab injector is then used to inject the chemical under the slab. A digital flow meter is used to ensure that a minimum of 2 litres of solution is applied per hole as per manufacturers specifications. The holes are then neatly sealed after the chemical has been applied. 


In areas that consist of bricks or pavers, the bricks or pavers closest to the building are removed. The soil beneath is then saturated with a residual termiticide liquid. The bricks and pavers are then replaced as found. A digital flow meter is used to ensure that 5 litres of solution is applied per metre as per manufacturers specifications. In areas that consist of earth or gravel, the area is trenched down to the footings. The area is then inspected for any cracks or gaps in the brickwork that could lead to hidden termite entry. The area is then treated with a residual termiticide liquid while being back-filled. A digital flow meter is used to ensure that 5 litres of solution is applied per metre as per manufacturers specifications.


In buildings with a sub-floor area, the ground soil (and supports) beneath the building are saturated with a residual termiticide liquid. The time and cost of a sub-floor treatment all depends on the level of access on the day. Some sub-floors areas can easily be accessed from external entry points, where others may require the moving of furniture, removal of floor coverings, and cutting of floor traps. A digital flow meter is used to ensure that 5 litres of liquid is applied per metre as per manufacturers specifications. The chemical used for external chemical barriers has 5-year residual life expectancy when applied as directed. Regular termite inspections should be maintained during this 5-year period. 


TERMITE MANAGEMENT - NEW BUILDING WORK

Wardles Pest Control is an Accredited Installer for Termimesh Australia. Termimesh provides homeowners with a non-toxic alternative that does not require re-treatments. There are no chemical residues and it is safe to use around the house and close to where the children play. Termimesh is Quality Controlled from manufacture to installation and can only be installed by accredited professionals that undergo extensive Quality Controlled Training and Testing. Termimesh is made from an extremely durable 725 grade stainless steel mesh that is designed to physically proof structures from concealed termite entry. Termimesh is too small for termites to squeeze through, and too hard for termites to chew through.

 

After a Termite Management System has been installed, a Durable Termite Treatment Notice will be installed in the electric meter box of the property. A Certificate of Subterranean Termite Treatment will be issued to the building owner which contains all necessary information of the management system. All termite management work is fully licensed and Insured. New building work is performed in strict accordance with Australian Standard AS3660.1:2014 Termite Management - New Building Work. Existing building work is performed in strict accordance with Australian Standard AS3660.2-2000 Termite Management – Existing Buildings & Structures.
